When time stops

Many have experienced when time, or our connection with time, has stopped.

Maybe when we are so engrossed in an activity, we completely lose our sense of time passing.

Or when something dramatic happens and at that moment, time seems to stand still.

One of my most visceral experiences was when my watch stopped as I drove away from my last chief exec job over a decade ago. It wasn’t a good ending, and I had held together an unsustainable situation for over 18 months.

I was exhausted mentally, physically and emotionally. And I was in no fit state to engage with anything.

It took two months before I was ready to have my watch repaired. Of course, I was aware of time during this period, but it was attached much more lightly. I needed this time out.

In our fast-paced world, we need to pay more attention to those occasions when time stops. And have the courage to notice what is really going on.
