Beauty is not always what we see at first sight.
Perhaps it’s because we’re not expecting it and need to look from a different angle.
Or what we see is still emerging. Like a newborn, this isn’t its finished form.
This week I want to walk with the good words of John O’Donohue’s blessing For a New Beginning. Letting each verse set the pace so we don’t miss what it is saying to us:
In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.
So what about the photograph?
This is the autumnal sun through the gills of an extraordinary mushroom we found on the hillside. We haven’t seen another like this and wonder how long it had been waiting to emerge.
I’ve been carrying this image with me for the last two weeks, hoping to have an opportunity to share it because I find it extraordinarily beautiful.
At this time, what else might we be getting ready to see?
