Find a clearing

Sometimes we just have to step away from the thing we’re stuck with, in order to see it for what it is.

Sometimes we just have to clear out the rubbish to have enough space to walk on.

Sometimes we have to stand back to see the precious things that were there all the time but are hidden in plain sight.

Last night I was reminded of Martha Postlethwaite’s poem Clearing, whilst reading Lifelines, the delightful book by Malcolm Doney and Martin Wroe. It reminded me of things I needed reminding of…

Do not try to save
the whole world
or do anything grandiose.
Instead, create
a clearing
in the dense forest
of your life
and wait there
until the song
that is yours alone to sing
falls into your open cupped hands
and you recognise and greet it.
Only then will you know
how to give yourself
to the world
so worthy of rescue.

So this morning I found a clearing in the woods and just stood…

I wonder, what do you need to step back from today? And where do you need to create a clearing so that you can see and hear better?
