Drawing a line

On 1st December 1955, Rosa Parks drew a line.

Although she had been heading toward this line for some time, she didn’t set out to provoke action. It was just that on this day, enough was enough.

Her refusal to give up her seat in the coloured section of the bus for a white passenger wasn’t an act of defiance. It was exhaustion, combined with an inner awakening that this just wasn’t right.

Yet this quiet act from a non-vocal, non-violent woman, stirred one of the biggest civil movements in history into action.

We don’t have to set out with grand ambitions to change the world. We just need to know where our line is.
