Rhythm is such a natural part of our lives that we cease to notice its ebbs and flows.
Our beating heart, the way we walk, the cycle of day and night, and the seasons.
If any one of these were to stop in mid beat, we’d be in trouble.
Yet, we often assume we can override their rhythms and control them for our own ends, like a machine.
Or else we become lazy and assume they will continue no matter what we do.
In thinking about balance and rhythm, I wonder if we’ve been looking in the wrong direction. Trying to master balance when we actually need to be more in tune with the rhythms around us.
Including each other.
In a dance, balance is found in the mutual flow. And when we yield the whole of ourselves to the rhythm, extraordinary things happen.
