Being wide open for adventure

Am I ready for adventure?

What an odd question for an unremarkable day in October.

Yet maybe not.

If we are not open to seeing possibilities, perhaps we won’t notice the doors opening before us.

John O’Donohue’s blessing For a New Beginning ends with the encouragement to be awake for adventure. And that doesn’t always mean travelling to the other side of the world (unless you are the wildlife photographer Kathy Karn).

But it does mean being expectant. Ready for change. Open to making good trouble.

Because unless we are open, we’ll never see the door.

Or as the author Roald Dahl said:

“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
